Pelagic Freezer-trawler Association
The Pelagic Freezer-trawler Association (PFA) represents the interests of 9 European pelagic freezer-trawler companies on an international level. At present, the association has members in the UK, France, Germany, Lithuania and the Netherlands, all operating freezer-trawlers that catch and process pelagic fish for human consumption. Our basic aim is a sustainable fishing industry, now and in the future. The food supply of frozen pelagic fish to people all over the world must be in balance with the harvesting of the pelagic fish stocks. To this end, the members of the PFA have established a joint policy in which co-operation and the transfer of knowledge on sustainable fisheries play a central role.
The PFA plays an active role in various sectoral and international bodies, where fisheries policy is discussed and advises are formulated. These include the (European) Regional Advisory Councils for the pelagic stocks (Pelagic RAC) and for the EU fleets that operate in external waters (Long Distance RAC). The PFA is also represented in the Pelagic working group of the European Association of Producers Associations as well as in Europêche/Cogeca and the Advisory Committee on Fisheries Affairs (ACFA), an official advisory body of the European Commission.
Furthermore the PFA acts as contact point for the European Commission, national administrations, regional fisheries organisations (RFO's) and other stakeholders, such as NGO's and other industry groupings, on issues regarding pelagic freezer-trawling.
